CIMC Group Delegation Visits Xiamen University College of Energy

Date: July 8, 2026

To promote the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry, and deepen industry-university-research collaborative innovation between enterprises and universities, Li Jie, General Manager of CIMC Zhongdian, led a delegation to the College of Energy of Xiamen University on April 9, 2026. The delegation held discussions and exchanges with Associate Professor Zhou Yao's team on core issues including joint research on key alkaline (ALK) water electrolysis technologies for green hydrogen production and the implementation of university-enterprise cooperation.

At the forum, the two sides held in-depth discussions on prevailing bottlenecks in the electrolytic cell industry, pathways for technological upgrading, and industry-university-research collaboration models.

After full communication and consultations, the two sides reached an agreement on joint research and development of core key technologies including boosting the energy efficiency of ALK electrolyzers and enhancing electrode stability.

Moving forward, the two parties will integrate the university’s research strengths and the enterprise’s industrial resources, concentrate on breakthroughs in core technologies for green hydrogen, and accelerate the industrial translation of laboratory research outcomes.

Imperial College London Vice President Nigel Brandon Visits Xiamen University

On May 13, Professor Nigel Brandon, Vice President of Imperial College London and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, led a delegation to visit Xiamen University (XMU). Professor Zhang Rong, Secretary of the Party Committee of XMU , met with the visiting delegation. The exchange session was also attended by Professor Zheng Nanfeng, CAS Member and Dean of the College of Energy.

Professor Zhang Rong spoke highly of Professor Brandon’s academic achievements and contributions to research translation in the field of electrochemical energy. He noted that XMU and Imperial College London have maintained cooperative ties since 2012, with frequent mutual visits driving continuous in-depth collaboration between the two institutions.

On the occasion, Professor Zhang Rong awarded Professor Nigel Brandon an honorary professorship of Xiamen University.

The XMU Nanqiang Academic Lecture was held in the lecture hall of the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory. Delivering a lecture titled “Innovation in Electrochemical technologies for the low carbon energy transition”, Professor Brandon drew on decades of research experience to systematically elaborate on innovative electrochemical technology pathways for low-carbon energy transition.

In the afternoon , a symposium between the visiting delegation and XMU representatives was held at Hemu Building of the College of Energy. At the symposium, the two sides exchanged views on joint student training, reciprocal visits of young scholars and the establishment of joint scientific research platforms.
