At 7:30pm, Mar. 13rd, 2018, in Room A211 of Hemu Building of the College of Energy, the 69th Energy Forum was held. The lecturer was Huang Zijing, an assistant professor. And the host is Guo Yingchu, a member of academic department. Mr.Huang hoped the forum could help students to understand the basic situation of nuclear energy and have an interest in the study of nuclear energy.

This forum was divided into three parts. Part one was about the development of world’s energy and nuclear energy. Mr. Huang introduced that, in today's world, China's carbon dioxide emissions had ranked first in the world, and China must take more environmental responsibilities. From the perspective of world energy development trends, it was essential to change the energy structure and discover and research new energy sources. Among them, nuclear energy would become the most important energy source in new energy.

Part two was about the change of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy was first used in the military and gradually developed into civilian. Mr. Huang told everyone about three nuclear accidents that caused panic to people - the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, the Chernobyl nuclear accident, and the Fukushima nuclear accident. However, the deaths and injuries caused by three accidents were actually very few. Now, they have shown certain positive significance. For example, since the Chernobyl nuclear accident, people really began to pay attention to nuclear safety, which promoted the exchange of nuclear experts between the East and the West to break the zero-controversy between the East and West nuclear experts.

Part three was about the new thoughts and the future prospects. Mr. Huang used industrial accidents and traffic accidents as an analogy, specific data were also used to show that nuclear energy was safe. Moreover, the world’s requirements for nuclear safety kept increasing. Therefore, the rejection of nuclear energy due to a nuclear accident is ‘a waste of food’. For the future of nuclear energy, Mr. Huang introduced that nuclear energy has been extended to many technical fields, and many ‘black technologies’ have been born, such as helium isotope batteries, aerospace nuclear reactors, etc.
