From Nov.1 to Nov.10, our professor Liu Yunquan attended “Biofuels and biobased productsthermal conversion seminar” (TCS2016), which washeld in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The seminar was hosted by RTI International, an institution located in the Research Triangle, North Carolina. Nearly 200 researchers from over 20 countries attended the seminar. Professor Liu introduced a new method founded by his team to liquefy biomass, called “An innovative one-step method for efficiently liquefying biomass into bio-oil using Raney nickel and NaOH as combined catalysts”, and his paper arrested many peers’ attention. While attended the meeting, professor Liu not only discussed with scholars form the U.S. and other countries, but also learned the current research frontiers of biomass thermochemistry and catalytic conversion.

After the seminar, Dr.Boateng invited Professor Liu to give a visit to the Eastern Regional Research Center of United States Department of Agriculture in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a serious and well-informed discussion with Dr. Akwasi Boateng and Dr. Charles Mullen, they reached a preliminary consensus on establishing cooperation system for the research of biomass distributed pyrolysis liquefaction.
